Hi guys. Thanks for an awesome service. Just wanted to check I wasn't missing something - probably will be fixed soon. The calendar stopped working, with http://cdn.instantcal.com/cvir.html redirecting to http://api.instantcal.com/cvj.html which apparently doesn't exist. I've setup the code snippet again, but no dice. Am I missing something?

Cheers,
sean.

Yes. The location hyperlink may be removed from the listing display by adding 'gbuttons=location' to the HTML embed code (the 'Map' link may also be removed by using 'gbuttons=location-map' instead). In the event window, 'ibuttons=location-map' may be used (the 'g' is for event-Group and the 'i' is for event-Item).

Is there a way to remove the location hyperlink? On our site, I would like to use the simple location of "nature center" rather than a street address and Yahoo maps finds lots of nature centers. I can use the gps coordinates which of course would link to the right location, but its not as reader friendly.

When using a custom theme, a background color can now be set by adding to the HTML embed code 'bcolor=rrggbb' where 'rrggbb' is a 6-digit hexadecimal color value (e.g. ffffc0).

Thanks for catching my typos. I will get those corrected.

Thanks for the reply. I guess what I am seeing is that the calendar scrolls back up to the top of the month when you click on an event and then close the event by clicking the X in the top right-hand corner of the calendar. If you just move your mouse cursor away from the event/calendar, it stays where you were when you clicked on the event. This is not the case when you close the event by using the X.

Currently, 'theme' controls the background color of the calendar; both the 'headers' (e.g. title bar, date navigation bar) and 'body' (where events are placed) are determined by 'theme'. If 'theme' is a 'flat' color (e.g. RE) or custom (e.g. ff0000, which is 'red'), the 'body' is always set to white. If 'theme' is a 'blend' (e.g. XRE), the 'body' is set to an image.

We will check into separating the 'header' and 'body' backgrounds for a future feature.

BTW: there is a spurious '>' in your HTML embed code after 'dims=1'.

Also, 'cvj.html' should be 'cvir.html'.

The scrollbar should already be positioned as close to the current day as possible; as the scrollbar is already at the bottom of the scrollable area, no further scrolling is possible.

If the scrollbar does not appear at the bottom, what browser is being used?

Also, there is a typo in the InstantCal HTML embed code; there is a 'less than' sign after dims=1. This should be '&gtype=...'.

Also 'cvj.html' should be 'cvir.html'.

I am using the list view. Is there a way to have the calendar start with whatever today's date is instead of the first of the month? It would be great if users didn't have to scroll down to todays date. This is especially true when it is the end of the month and you have to scroll down quite a bit to get to the current date.

Example: http://www.troyusd.org - I have a list view embedded in the right column.

admin on "How to set floating timezone in instantcal"

InstantCal normally displays non-floating time events in the timezone
of the computer used to view the calendar.

InstantCal displays floating time events, of course, at the same time
in any timezone.

It is likely that your calendar contains only non-floating time events.

Since InstantCal obeys the iCal event format, it is not possible to
configure InstantCal to directly display non-floating time events as floating
time events; this can only be done by changing the calendar itself
to specify events as floating. Ask your calendar service vendor for
further information about this.

It is, however, possible to configure InstantCal to display non-floating
time events in different ways using the 'timezone_def' setting in the
IFrame 'src' value as follows:
- timezone_def=Area/Location (e.g. timezone_def=Asia/Calcutta): display
event in the specified timezone
- timezone_def=0: display event in the timezone specified by the calendar
(this is similar to floating time as the time always appears the same
to all viewers; however, it is the time in the original calendar timezone)

For more information, see:
http://www.instantcal.com/api.html

Hello,

We tried using instantcal for our website. We are using goggle calendar’s ical url to be shown on the website. In that google calendar’s setting we have specified timezone as India. Then too we don’t get the correct data..the event which is scheduled on 10:30 pm 22nd may 2010 gets displayed on 22nd and also on 23rd in instantcal.

We also read about floating time. How can we use it in the iframe code?

Please guide us are we doing something wrong.

Waiting for reply.

The iCal file used with InstantCal needs to contain events that have a CATEGORIES property in order to use InstantCal with categories. The name(s) of the CATEGORIES
can then be used with the 'ccategory' option (and 'ccategory_type=checkbox') to display categories checkboxes below the calendar.

Categories may be assigned to Outlook events using the 'Categories' button that Outlook displays when editing the details of an event. Custom categories may also be added to the Outlook defaults.

After creating an event and assigning a category in Outlook, save the calendar as an iCal file. The file should contain lines such as:
CATEGORIES:mycat
where 'mycat' is the name of the category that was assigned to the event in Outlook.

Then, use 'ccategory=mycat' to tell InstantCal (in the HTML embed code) that one of the categories which can be selected is 'mycat'. Repeat this for as many categories as desired.

There are several color options available for InstantCal.

The background color of the IFrame containing InstantCal may be set by adding 'allowTransparency=true' and setting the IFrame style property 'background-color'.

The color scheme of an InstantCal View may be set by changing the 'theme' option as described in the API at:
http://www.instantcal.com/api.html

Background colors for calendar events may be set using the 'ccolor' option, also
described in the API at:
http://www.instantcal.com/api.html

If there is another portion of the calendar View that you wish to color, post the InstantCal HTML embed code and describe the area, as each View may differ slightly.

I was wondering if I can hide the time stamps in the list, as it crams the text of the tv show title.

Edit: found the "gehtime=0" function, but the text is still crammed up and there is just empty space where the time was. Is it possible to stretch the text field so it also uses the space where the time was?

Yesterday, a software release was done in preparation for moving InstantCal to a content distribution network (CDN), which will improve performance. Try re-starting your web browser. If that does not help, email us the HTML embed code at info at instantcal.com and we will check further.

Note that if you now run the Demo with your calendar URL, you will get a new HTML code that uses the CDN; this should improve performance.

InstantCal works with nearly any iCal file (sometimes also called a 'feed'). If your calendar service makes an iCal URL available, it may be used with InstantCal.

iCal is a standard calendar format, much as HTML is a standard web content format. iCal files frequently, although not always, use .ics as a suffix. The internet URL of the iCal representation of your calendar should be pasted into the InstantCal Demo to verify that it is valid; if an error is displayed, normally it means that either the URL is not accessible or the file in not in iCal format. Here is an example of iCal format: http://www.instantcal.com/test.ics

To display calendar event time in 24 hour format, append '&time24=1' to the InstantCal HTML embed code (the '&' is needed to separate setup options).

It is not yet possible to modify the date format, or to change the language.

Very useful tool - I love it.

But I would like to adopt it for better use in Germany.

Is it possible to display the time in 24 hour format?
Is it possible to display the Date in DD.MM.YYYY format instead of M/D/YYYY?
Is it possible to select a language to display labels, days, months etc. in German?

Monday = Montag
Thuesday = Dienstag etc.

Thank you in advance
Harry

The font colors can not currently be changed.

The height of days in a month grid may be changed using one of these options:
- 'gwrap=1': displays each event summary completely for all events
- 'gpercellm=N': sets the maximum number of events in a day (0 means unlimited)

Ok that worked great. Just a couple more questions and I'll have this finished :)

1. Any way to change the font color of the Month and Year like we did with the name?

2. I have 4 entries on one day in the month. Only three will show up without clicking 'more' Is there any way to make the cells bigger so I can fit that last item in there and have it show up without any more clicking? I tried increasing the height of the calendar to stretch it out but at 600px it won't seem to get any taller no matter what I set the value to. Thanks a lot.

Yes. There is now a 'cnamec' parameter which sets the (font) color for the displayed
calendar name.

For example '&cnamec=blue' or '&cnamec=#0000ff' would set the text color to 'blue'.

Is there any way to change the text color of the calendar name? I'm using a custom color instead of the themes and it makes my name(cname) black which is kind of hard to see with my background color.
Thanks!

You may need to refresh the page, empty the cache, or restart the web browser.

We are working on making InstantCal more 'real-time', but calendars
are currently not always updated as quickly as we might like.
